Homework |
30% |
Homework will be assigned accordingly. You should turn in the assignments typed. As we will discuss homework in class, NO late assignments will be accepted. |
3. |
Summaries |
30% |
You are required to attend at least 10 GIL talks throughout the semester. You may choose whichever talks you are interested in. Notice that even for topics/subfields that you are not particularly interested in, you can still learn a lot from the speakers, e.g., the presentation style, the overall organization, etc. For each of the talks you attended, you are required to submit a one-page, typed, single-spaced critique. The summary should be no more than 300 words. You should NOT copy directly from the abstract/handout/Powerpoint provided by the speakers, but should instead try to digest as much as you can and come up with a summary on your own. All summaries should be handed in the following class after the talk, or by 5:00 pm, Friday if there is no class during that week. Otherwise, they will be regarded as late. 10% of the grades will be deducted for each late day. |
